Power-to-Methane
The IET Institute for Energy Technology at the HSR Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil recently built the first Power-to-Methane pilot plant. The system makes use of photovoltaic energy, hydrogen, and CO2, which is directly retrieved from the ambient air. With chemical processes, they convert power to methane that can be repurposed as fuel for transportation and heating.
The HSR launched a design contest within the ZHdK's graphic design department for the plant's tarps. In collaboration with graphic designer Franca Sidler, we created a concept using spatiality, illusion, the molecular structure of methane, and simplicity to promote the IET's system. To our delight, the committee chose our idea to represent their plant. The tarps have been printed and mounted in summer 2018 and can be viewed in Rapperswil.
Stay tuned! Photos of the mounted tarp are following.
